One clogged line trips the float switch and shuts your AC down on the hottest day of the year — or overflows into ceilings, walls and floors. Insurance deductibles start around $1,000, and that's before the mess.

Why Isn't Vinegar Enough?

Why Isn't Vinegar Enough?

A monthly cup of vinegar is a one-time rinse — it touches part of the line for a few seconds, ZOOGY™ grows back within days, and one missed month is all a clog needs. DRAIN IV™ doses the line automatically, every day, all year.

Drain-line clogs are the single most common AC service call Hales runs in Tampa Bay — every summer, every year.

#1
Cause of Summer Shutdowns

A clogged condensate drain trips the float switch and kills your AC — usually on the hottest weekend of the year.

$1,000+
Insurance Deductible

Water damage from an overflowing drain line means drywall, insulation, mold remediation — and a deductible before insurance covers a dollar.

Drain-line clogs from biological growth are the number-one call we run in Florida every summer. We've seen $10,000 water-damage claims that started with a $200 clog that went unprotected.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DRAIN IV™ — Your Questions Answered

What exactly is ZOOGY™ and why does it clog my drain line?
ZOOGY™ is our name for zooglea — a thick, rubbery biological slime produced by algae and bacteria that thrive in the warm, wet environment inside your AC's condensate drain line. Florida's heat and humidity make it grow faster than almost anywhere else in the country. Over weeks, it builds up until it creates a full clog. When that happens, water backs up, trips the float switch, and shuts your system down — or overflows into your ceilings and walls. It's the #1 service call we run, and the #1 cause of summer AC shutdowns.
I pour vinegar down my drain every month. Isn't that enough?
Vinegar is better than nothing — but only barely. A monthly cup rinses part of the drain line for a few seconds. It doesn't reach the whole line, and ZOOGY™ starts growing back within days. Even if you're disciplined about it, one missed month — a vacation, a busy week — is all it takes. DRAIN IV™ doses the entire line automatically, every single day, with a solution formulated specifically to fight zooglea. There's no comparison.
How long does the installation take?
Under 30 minutes. A Hales technician mounts the smart-timer dispenser at your air handler, connects it to the condensate line, loads the solution, and confirms it's working before leaving. There's no new plumbing, no drilling into walls, and no mess. We can add it to almost any service call or tune-up visit — you don't need a separate appointment.
What happens when the 12 months of solution runs out?
Comfort Club members get it refilled at their annual tune-up — it's part of the membership benefit. If you're not a member, we'll schedule a refill visit. The dispenser holds exactly 12 months of solution at the standard dosing rate, so you won't run out between visits. The 6-Month No-Clog Guarantee covers any active 6-month refill cycle in which Hales installs or refills with our approved solution.
Is the solution safe for my AC equipment and my family?
Yes. The Hales-approved solution is eco-friendly and formulated specifically for condensate drain lines. It will not damage your drain pan, drain line, float switch, or any other AC components. The micro-doses released daily are small and contained within the drain system. It is not introduced into your home's airflow.
What if it clogs anyway? What does the guarantee actually cover?
If your drain line clogs during the active 6-month refill cycle — meaning DRAIN IV™ has been installed by Hales and filled with our approved solution — we will clear the clog at no charge. No service fee, no labor fee. This guarantee is provided in writing at the time of installation. Terms: the guarantee covers drain-line clearing only; it does not cover pre-existing damage or water damage that occurred before installation. The 6-month window resets each time we refill with approved solution.
